  • Sharene,
Just wanted to write and say hi. I think we share a Yupiit conenction. I was in Tuluksak from 04-09 and for some reason your name is familiar; then I saw that you are teaching in Akiak and figured I better write.
I know teaching American history in rural Alaska can be a challenge and I am certain you understand this from your time in the village. One key for me was starting with my students as people, getting to know them, and learning about some of their subsistence activities. Then I would try to find some common ground where I could talk about themes in American history while using subsistence as a way to illustrate my points. It was not always possible, but my success in Tuluksak usually has a starting point of local culture and relating to each student as a unique human being.
Hope things are OK in Akiak?
    So you know Clare R?

  • We're doing pretty good together. You got your wiki page! Nice! But I can't get your address for your ning page, your MY PAGE. Whenever I copy it, paste it and then make a link from your wiki to your ning, it can't find you. VERY WEIRD. I'm hoping it will fix itself by morning!

    Welcome!
